Golden Arm

Laz Weathers is a talented high school senior pitcher living in Jet City, a down and out trailer park in Seattle. With a speech impediment and a learning disability, Laz believes that baseball may be the only path available to him after high school. His hopes of being drafted for the minor leagues seem to be crushed, however, when the baseball program at his high school is eliminated before the season begins. To make things even worse, the trailer park is now scheduled to be demolished by developers and Laz’s younger brother, also a talented baseball player, has been hanging out with a local small-time drug dealer. His coach’s concern, however, gives Laz the opportunity of a lifetime. He is offered the chance to transfer to Laurelhurst High, a wealthy school across town that has the city’s top team, and live with the family of their star player. Knowing he’ll get better training and more exposure to college scouts, Laz must decide whether to leave his family and chase after his own dream even if it means he won’t be around to help his mom and keep his brother out of trouble. In this riveting story about baseball and brotherhood, a young man must choose between being the star pitcher he always dreamed of becoming and the team player his family needs.
